Canyon lake is one of only five gated cities in California. It was created in 1928 when the Railroad Canyon Dam was built. The lake is approximately 525 acres and has a 14.9 mile shoreline. The lake is not owned by the city but rather by the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District. The water in the lake is supplied from the San Jacinto River and Salt Creek. Canyon Lake supplies roughly 10% of the surrounding areas water supply after being treated by the Canyon Lake Water Treatment Plant.
In 1968 The Corona Land Company started building a master-planned community. Today, Canyon Lake has a population of 11,051 and is still growing. Canyon Lake provides many great activities for the residents, including golf, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, volleyball, baseball, basketball, and a wide variety of water sports.
The main attractions of Canyon Lake would be the golf course, the incredible wakeboarding in the main lake and the slalom course, and the wide open fishing. The golf course features 5,984 yards of golf with a course rating of 68.2 and a slop rating of 109 all on Bermuda grass. The course was designed by Ted Robinson and is a ASGCA course.
Between the numerous activities and the safety to raise a family behind the guarded gates, Canyon Lake is the place to be.
